Jericoacoara is also surrounded by National Park. The park is a protected area with no development allowed. This means that the town will never become large and over developed. Building regulations restrict the height and type of building. Two storey buildings are permitted, with all roof tops below the height of the coconut trees. These restrictions correlate to a direct growth in investment as land and property becomes more difficult to obtain.
Many people visit just to chill, practice yoga, capoeria and go out late to the many live music events and parties. Other activities include horse riding, dune buggy tours to the fresh water lagoons, fishing, massage, learning Portuguese and experiencing the Brazilian way of life.
